Nothing to add WRT the knife, but "general purpose" or "multi-purpose" can
be translated as {lo' law'} "many use(s)". This was used twice on the BOP
Poster, translated as "utility":

   cha' choQmey naQ tu'lu' 'ej tep choQ bIngDaq lo' law' bID choQ tu'lu'
   2 Full Decks and a Half Utility Deck under the Cargo Deck

   lo' law' lojmIt
   utility hatch

Note {lo' law'} precedes the noun it modifies as in any noun+noun
phrase.  So we can say:

   lo' law' tlhIngan taj 'oH 'aqnaw'e'.
   The {'aqnaw} is a general purpose Klingon knife.

   tlhIngan lo' law' taj 'oH 'aqnaw'e'.
   The {'aqnaw} is a Klingon multi-purpose knife.

Another option might be {le'be'} "be unexceptional, be nonspecific, be
general" as in {nav HablI' le'be'} "general FAX" (vs. a private machine;
cf. HQ 5.2).
