As used in canon:

   nIteb Qob qaD jup 'e' chaw'be' SuvwI'
   A warrior does not let a friend face danger alone. TKW

Note the phrase: {Qob qaD} "face danger"

   Someone unsatisfied with the status quo, a rebel, might
   be said to want to {ngup qaD} (challenge those in charge;
   literally, "challenge the cape"). (KGT 157)

>Additional Notes:
>KGT adds the meanings of "resist, oppose, confront, face."

Cf. also {'om} "resist, fend off".

>Homonyms:

Types of challenges include {mu'qaD} "curse" and the {nalqaD} "mate
challenge". A more intense challenge is the {Hay'} "duel".

{pIqaD} "the native Klingon writing system" and {qo'qaD} "phlegm" seem to
be unrelated to {qaD}.
