Type 7 (aspect) suffixes in SAOs

peHruS:
: pab wa' Qagh vItu'. mu'tlhegh {cha' muD Dujmey vIlo' 'e' vInabpu'}
: mu' {'e'} vebbogh wotDaq moHaq Segh Soch {-pu'} net tuch.
:
:} chaq ghu' vIDel 'e' vIDubta'. [I know I broke a grammatical rule
:} there by using Type 7 on the second verb of SAO. It's a bad rule
:} and Okrand has broken it enough times that maybe we should stop
:} considering it to be a modern rule. Maybe it is becoming no' Hol.]

Not so fast. Okrand's violation of this rule has been vastly exaggerated
(often by those anxious to do it themselves). He's done it only *twice* out of
the 46 SAOs I can find in my notes - both times in fairly complicated
"literary" sentences:

DaH che' ghawran. yejquv DevwI' moj ghawran 'e' wuqta' cho'
   'oDwI' Dapu'bogh janluq pIqarD HoD.
Gowron currently presides, named leader of the High Council by
Captain Jean-Luc Picard, who was acting as Arbiter of Succession. S25

DuraS tuq tlhIngan yejquv patlh luDub 'e' reH lunIDtaH DuraS
   be'nI'pu' lurSa' be'etor je.
The sisters of the House of Duras, Lursa and B'Etor, are constantly
seeking a higher standing for the House of Duras within the Klingon
   High Council. S26

(If you can find others, please send them to me.)

That works out to only 4.35% of the time. If the corpus of Okrandian tlhIngan
Hol is at all representative of "modern" Klingon speech, this hardly
constitutes a trend.
