I was more amused.  I took Hoshi's continuing difficulty learning Klingon as
Paramount's teasing the Klingon language community.  You'll recall that Uhura
had the same trouble with Klingon at the Morska border outpost when the
Enterprise's universal translator was sabotaged in ST6.

Did you catch what I assumed to be the linguistic joke in sick bay?  Hoshi was
complaining that the translator wouldn't lock onto Klaang's dialect:  "The
syntax won't align!"  <g>  I guess that's bound to happen with an adaptive
syntax.

And earlier... to entice super-linguist Hoshi to join his mission, Archer
played her an audio recording of some sample Klingon provided by the Vulcan
embassy.  The voice wasn't Marc Okrand's, but I guess "Conversational Klingon"
will still be in print in the 22nd century in a Vulcan edition!
