RE: Enterprise

If you look on StarTrek.com, they have a timeline that acknowledges the
flight of the SS Valiant before the events of Enterprise. The show never
claimed that the Enterprise was the first ship to leave the solar system
(after all, several of the characters mention that they had been to other
inhabited planets,) only that the Enterprise was the first ship to do so at
multiple warp speeds. (If you watch real carefully during the opening
credits, you'll see a ship between the image of Cochrane's Phoenix and the
Enterprise. It's got the obvious warp nacells... another clue that humans
were in the process of exploring, just VERY slowly.)

As far as first contact with the Klingons... it's hard to say just how
involved the Klingons will be in this show. Since we're left with many
unresolved questions about just what all that information was embedded in
Klaang's DNA, they may play an important roll in the ongoing "Temporal War"
plotline (I certainly hope so just to try to catch the use of the language.)
One can imagine that if there were some kind of war with the future that
StarFleet may have decided to classify and bury that information -- only
waiting until much later to release that they had made "first contact" with
the Klingon empire...

Just IMHO.

anohter thing the SS Valiant was supposed to be the first ship to leave the
solar system. So many inconsistancies.
