In the ST6 novelization Valeris sabotaged the UT, which explains Uhura's
rushed, spur-of-the-moment translating BTW. After all, Valeris was aboard the
Enterprise as an ally of Gen. Chang et al. to sabotage the Khitomer
conference. Since the book was based on an earlier version of the script
(necessary so that the book and the movie could be released simultaneously), I
wonder why Paramount's writers made such a minor, last-minute change to the
story. Does anyone know?
