RE: KLBC: Names

Welcome to the list, 'atlh'atlh! I'm taD, the current Beginner's Grammarian.
Since you obviously know to use "KLBC" in messages that you want me to
check, I'll skip the rest of my standard introduction.

'atlh'atlh said:

	nuq vIneH?

	'atlh'atlh vIpong'egh.

Now, is that valid? "I call myself 'atlh'atlh"

The FAQ has a brief but good explanation of how you could say "My name
is..."
You can find it at http://higbee.cots.net/~holtej/klingon/faq.htm#2.1

As far as your version goes, {'atlh'atlh vIpong'egh} is a good attempt.
However, according to The Klingon Dictionary, if we use the suffix {-'egh}
("oneself"), we can only use verb prefixes that indicate "no object". These
would be prefixes such as {jI-} "I - no object", {bI-} "you - no object",
{ma-} "we - no object", etc.
So unfortunately, the sentence cannot use {-'egh} and have an object (in
this case, the object is your name) at the same time.
One way to get around this problem, as mentioned in the FAQ, is to use the
noun {pong} instead of the verb {pong}. To say that one noun is another
noun, we can use the "to be" sentence construction (described at the top of
page 68 in TKD):

{taD 'oH pongwIj'e'} "My name is taD.", or this could also be understood as
"As for my name, it is taD."

Qapla'!

- taD
