Klingon has more than one way to make a noun plural. Recently this "tip"
column posted that the noun suffix -pu' makes a noun referring to a being
capable of language plural (example yaS = officer, yaSpu' = officers); and,
the noun suffix -mey makes a noun referring to a being not capable of
language plural (example mIl'oD = sabre bear, mIl'oDmey = sabre bears [please
excuse the use of current English 'bears' instead of the archaic 'bear' even
in the plural in order to distinguish the plural])
Today the highlight is the noun suffix -Du', which forms the plural of nouns
referring to body parts.
namwechDu' ghaj mIl'oDmey = sabre bears have paws
namwech = paw (noun)
-Du' = plural of nouns referring to body parts (noun suffix, type 2)
ghaj = has (verb)
mIl'oD = sabre bear (noun)
-mey = plural of nouns not capable of language (noun suffix, type 2)
Additional sentences:
pachDu' lo' targhmey = dogs* use claws (pach = claw; lo' = uses; targh =
dog-/pig-like Klingon animal)
'uSDu' ghaj raS = the table has legs ('uS = leg; raS = table) Notice that
even beings not capable of language may have body parts.
DeSDu' chop targh = A dog bites the arms (DeS = arm; chop = bites)
puq lulegh be'pu'. mInDu' lo'. = The women see a child. They use eyes. (puq
= child; lulegh = they see him, her, it [singular object]; be' = woman
[be'pu' = women]; mIn = eye)
