This is an excellent point that I had not considered. I've discussed the
idea of non-subject, non-object "noun phrases," and I've discussed the idea
of Type 5 nouns being an integral part of the noun and not the sentence, but
I hadn't considered talking about both at the same time.
I agree with you: nouns with Type 5 suffixes are not quite so simple. But
considering the idea of a noun phrase, which no one seems to have any issues
with, it all still seems to work. TKD calls the Type 5'd nouns "syntactic
markers," but I think this is just a poor name applied by Terran linguists.
People argued extensibly with me some time ago about /-'e'/ being a topic
marker, saying that canon actually shows it as emphasis, as opposed to what
section 3.3.5 has to say about it. I don't see this as significantly
different. Anyway, it's still all just my opinion.
