Re: Klingon WOTD: SIj (v)

: Klingon word: SIj
: Part of Speech: verb
: Definition: slit

As used in canon:

qaStaHvIS wa' ram loS SaD Hugh SIjlaH qetbogh loD.
4,000 throats may be cut in one night by a running man. (TKD)

A {SIjwI'} is a type of knife used to prepare food:

"Food-preparation knives, of which there are many types, come in
different sizes and shapes for different cutting tasks... For
finer work (such as making the slits in limbs needed to extract
veins), a small {SIjwI'} (literally, 'slitter') is commonly
   employed." (KGT p.97)

Related vocabulary include {pe'} "cut", {DuQ} "stab". The less descriptive
phrase {taj lo'} "use a knife" is always an option.

Also note the slang meaning of {SIj} as "be insightful, be clever, have a keen
mind" (KGT).
