bID chab Sopchu'pu' - He completely ate half of the pie.
naQ specifies that the pie is whole, and not partial.
You are correct that -chu' would emphesis *all the way*.
[chab Sopchu'] doesn't specify the condition of the pie; and so of course we
would most likely assume a whole pie.
naQ emphesises that it was an "entire" pie.

chab naQ Sopchu'pu' - "He devoured the WHOLE thing!"
