You would probably be understood, but you would not be correct. The way to
say "something is something else" is to use a pronoun. When one thing is
representend by a pronoun, it's very simple:
tlhIngan jIH. - I am a Klingon
Qel SoH. - You are a doctor
'avwI' chaH. - They are guards
When both the somethings are explicit, you use a similar construction,
putting <-'e'> on the final noun.
pu' 'oH Dochvetlh'e'. - That thing is a phaser
baHwI' ghaH matlh'e'. - Maltz is the gunner
There are also a few verbs which relate to equality: <rap> - "be the same"
and <nIb> - "be identical". With these verbs, the things which are the same
are the subject of the verb:
rap wa' cheb'a', Hut chebmey je.
That's probably best for this case.
