Since this is set in a pre-electronic era, how about equipping your
doors with very rudimentary locking devices that can be defeated by
using a {mavjop}? :)
You could also use a locking mechanism such as one would expect to
find in an ancient Egyptian pyramid, where an insignia of some sort
must be pressed against a panel in order to unlatch the door.
