Such things aren't completely unheard-of in, say, English, without
necessarily entailing etymological relationships. They're called (I think)
phonaesthemes. Consider:
glitter, glimmer, glint, glisten, glow, gleam...
sniffle, snot, snore, sniff (not snail, though)...
