negative numbers

according to The American Heritage Dictionary Second College Edition 1985:
irrational (adj.)
3. Math Incapable of being expressed as an integer or a quotient of
integers.
imaginary number (n.)
A complex number in which the real part is zero and the coefficient of the
imaginary unit is not zero.
imaginary unit (n.)
The positive square root of -1.
and just for grins {{;/
transcendental (adj.)
3. Math. a. Not capable of being determined by any combination of a finite
number of equations with rational integral coefficients. b. Not expressible
as an integer of quotient of integers. Used of numbers, esp. non-repeating
infinite decimals.
The last definition includes such numbers as e and pi.

Lastly, I think you could express negative numbers if you use a cartisian
plane analogy. Negative numbers a simply to the left or below zero.
