It doesn't pay to look for really clever xenobiology (or xenosociology,
etc) from Star Trek (with some possible exceptions when the writers were
really trying for just that effect and usually miss the mark anyway). It's
unusual enough that ninety-seven percent of the species we meet "happen" to
be humanoid, bipedal, same gait, just two hands, one head, even down to the
arrangement of features on the face. And cultural similarities also
(honor, greed, religion, integrity).
I guess that's not really what I watch Star Trek for.
