I don't quite know where it started, but I've got the impression that
that Klingon eyes are not well suited to "Earth normal" RGB colors and
tended to be better for night vision, going further into the infra-red
and ultra-violet as a result of their evolutionary ancestry
(predator-based).

I'm working on a short story that uses the line: "Klingon eyes don't see
bright colors, mostlly reds and grey scale.  Decended from predators as
they are, their vision is more for textures and motion than color. 
Compared to humans, they're nearly color blind.  Mouth-blind, too! 
That's why the food is either spicey or raw!"

However, that's just my impression/opinion.  Don't know if I ever
heard/read that expressed openly.
