Here's the original English:
Yes, there is a new virus, but it effects *ONLY* people using MS-WORD
(versions 6 & 7, aka for Win 3.x and Win95) AND MS-MAIL. If you're
infected, then it randomly (1 in 4) opens your MS-Mail address book &
selects 3 names from it to send a message to.
It sends a blank message to them with the infected document attached.
When they double-click on the attachment, it then infects their MS-Word
environment. So it's *ONLY* a problem to those people using those tools.
* * * * * * * * * * *follow-up from husband* * * * * * * * * *
1. The virus affects ONLY users that use MS-Word AND use MS-Mail
(internally and/or Internet).
2. As far as I know (confirmed by _several_ experts), the virus
does nothing except spread. If he's losing disk space, it's
because of some other problem. Viruses tend to be an easy
"blame" & cleaning up while checking for them tends to fix
lots of other problems (remind me to tell you what Win95 rel 1
does when disk space gets below 2 to 4 meg...)
3. You can't get a virus from reading an e-mail, unless your
mail program has auto-decode, etc. turned on (a _very_bad_ idea).
This virus is activated and spread by _Double-clicking_ on the
attachment. (MS-Word uses MS-Word to handle certain types of
attachments, depending on attachment file type.)
4. The virus appears to be real. While not a noteworthy virus in
in of itself, it does mark another step in virus complexity.
