I study the Klingon language.
I am studying sentence structure for the Klingon language.
Please assess my sentences.
I have been wondering about the limitations of Klingon sentence
structuring in regards to compound sentences. I have come up with ideas
for sentences which may be invalid, but I am unable to confirm or deny
their validity with the few examples in TKD and the canon sources
available to me.
Here are examples of what I am talking about, starting with standard
simple sentences expanding into my questionable constructions.
Example 1: Use of multiple sentences-as-objects
pIj Dalo' // You use it/them often.
{pIj Dalo'} 'e' bItIv // You enjoy _that_ you use it/them often.
{pIj Dalo' 'e' bItIv} 'e' vItul // I hope _that_ you enjoy that you
use it/them often.
/* pIj Dalo' 'e' bItIv 'e' vItul "I hope that you often enjoy using
them." */
Example 2: Using {vaj} with {'e'} and {net}
choja'Qo'chugh vaj qaHoHnIS
// If you refuse to tell me, then I must kill you.
{choja'Qo'chugh vaj qaHoHnIS} net Sov
//One knows _that_ If you refuse to tell me, then I must kill you.
{choja'Qo'chugh vaj qaHoHnIS} 'e' bISov
//You know _that_ If you refuse to tell me, then I must kill you.
/* choja'Qo'chugh vaj qaHoHnIS 'e' bISov "You know that if you don't
tell me, I gotta kill you." */
Would these qualify as valid sentences from among the "complex and
convoluted" sentences written of on TKD p.59, or are these sentences
simply invalid? Has there been any issues of HolQeD which have
addressed this? (I only have the first volume of HolQeD, and am
interested in getting important back-issues.)
