Actually, it IS a noun.  English often uses the suffix "-ing" on verbs to make 
them nouns.  "Sparring" is either a noun, or is the present participle form of 
"spar."  "Sparring" is a real, honest noun.

Besides, just because you can do something in English doesn't mean you can 
also do it in Klingon.

Use the word {qeq}, which is both a noun and a verb.  It's correct, and it's 
exactly what you're looking for!  Call it {qeqHom} if you like.
