It's not totalitarian, because it's editing, not censorship. You're
free to write in any language whenever you want, to whomever you
want, but it's not appropriate to do so on this mailing list. This
list is about Klingon. The charter specifies two possibilities for
traffic on this list: discussions about Klingon, in English, and
discussions about anything at all, in Klingon. Writing in any other
language is as rude as speaking in a foreign language in a crowd of
people who don't know it, or, similarly, posting a message to, say,
soc.culture.esperanto about where to buy those cool Klingon headpieces.
Posting to a mailing list something that violates the charter of the
list is simply impolite. Asking you not to do so is not censorship or
in any other way totalitarian; it's simply a matter of appropriateness
vs. inappropriateness. (And if you're concerned about what Klingon
concepts of "polite" might or might not be, think of it as dishonorable
instead.)

Of course, this thread, as a meta-discussion, is in a murky area with
regard to the list's charter. So let's end it and get on with the
business at hand, namely, tlhIngan Hol. maQochbe''a'?
