That's perfectly acceptable, but it's not an exception. The object might
be a single noun, or it might be a noun followed by an adjectial verb, or
it might be a set of nouns connected by a conjunction, or it might be a
noun-noun combination. It might be preceded by a purpose clause. It might
contain a relative clause as big as a shuttlecraft. But no matter how many
words actually make up the "direct object", the object must always come
immediately before the verb.
