In recent years the Klingon in Trek novels has been fairly decent. John Ordover
knows of our existence (in fact, he's a friend of good friend of mine, which at
least got me a chance to chat with him a bit, offering KLI services for any Trek
authors doing Klingon). Some Trek novelists have gone right to the source
themselves, and have enlisted Marc Okrand's help for Klingon phrases and
grammar.
I agree that at least in print we don't have to suffer bad pronunciation (just
inconsistent use of orthography), and the pressure of deadlines are vastly
different. Still, no authors have contacted me about any Klingon for their
books yet.
