Does shield refer only to the shields of space ships? We have seen 
Klingon shields hanging in Worf's quarters, I think the term covers 
both ideas.

There you go, that was my intent. I didn't mean to imply that these 
were the actual names of the letters, just a military jargon that 
could be used by "modern" Klingon warriors.
