Door Repair Guy

DaH jIjatlh.

I've been a member of the KLI for about two years, and a
lurker on this mailing list for a year or more. Since late 1993
I have been writing a Star Trek parody series named Door Repair
Guy which I have been posting in the Star Trek discussion group
of the National Capital Freenet in Ottawa, Canada. Door Repair
Guy is the saga of the lowest-ranking member of Starfleet, the
guy who fixes the doors. Part of the character's back story is
the fact that he apprenticed in traditional Klingon doorhanging
technique in the factory of the master doorhanger Krell on the
Klingon Homeworld. (DRG is presently under the cloud of
discommendation, but for relatively honourable reasons.) As a
character Door Repair Guy is a cultural sponge. He has undergone
a partial Borg makeover, and is a very very minor Bajoran saint,
for reasons that I'd better not get into here. He also speaks
Klingon, and there is a bit of Klingon dialogue in most episodes.
Here's where you come in. My Klingon is largely self-
taught, though on the basis of TKD, CK, PK, and HolQeD. Granted,
DRG's Klingon should be about as idiosyncratic as his English,
but still I feel there is room for correction, or at the very
least annotation. I would be pleased if some of you would access
the series and e-mail me your criticisms. Remember, though, it
is a parody series so though my Klingons are grave they are not
above some respectful comic handling. Also, I have taken it upon
myself to invent elements of Klingon doorway lore, theatre, and
flyfishing, and have added a member to the Duras family tree.
These innovations should be taken with a grain of salt, but any
helpful remarks would be given due consideration.

To access Door Repair Guy, telnet to [email protected]
(134.117.1.22.), enter as "guest" (without the quotation marks),
enter your terminal type (if you don't know, type "dumb") (sorry,
I didn't make this up), type "go boldly", choose item 4, the
Creative Area, then 2, Door Repair Guy. Those on WWW may try
http://journal.biology.carleton.ca/People/Andrew_Jeanes/doorguy.
Each episode is about 25k. Episodes of particular Klingon
interest are 007 "The Doors of Perception", 021 "Stomping
Ground", 032 "Threshold", 033 "Klank", 034 "Cross Purposes", 035
"The Nostril", and the upcoming episode 036.
