Colors:
Chinese had only a few words for colors until recent centuries of contact
with the West. At first they seemed to have added the words "dark" and
"light" to the pre-existing colors' words to distinguish shades. In later
times they finally INVENTED new words and attendant characters for other
colors.
By the way, Chinese Mandarin <ch'ing> meant "blue, black, green." <huang>
meant "yellow, orange, brown." <hung> was any shade of "red." <bai> is
"white" and <hei> is "black." Aren't these just about the same amount of
terms and concepts expressed in Klingon? Perhaps Klingons, not color blind
at all, have not yet developed a need for more specific color discrimination
verbalization.
