WARNING SLIGHTLY OFF TOPIC MESSAGE TO FOLLOW:
Regarding using the batlh'etlh and loosing fingers.
I was recently introduced to a batlh'etlh technique that uses the
inner blade of the weapon to hook the opponents handle and
thus manipulate the opponents balth'etlh.
The result is that the blade gets VERY close to the
opponents fingers and loosing a finger becomes a risk. Thus when
practicing hand guards are used.
Contrary to what you see on TREK the weapon is NOT best used as
a flailing type of sword but is best designed for relatively
close-in fighting that rips at the soft body tissues much more than
severing limbs or impailing skulls. (sounds fun!)
