Something I thought I'd add:
I know a lot of people tend to have problems identifying objects and indirect
objects. Here's a handy, simple, helpful way of identifying objects:
When you're thinking about a sentence you're translating, like "He gives me
the ball", ask yourself the question, "What is he giving?". The obvious
answer is, "the ball". The answer to this question is the direct object,
no matter how the sentence is constructed (in English).
Other examples: "He ran to the store". What did he run? Nothing. There
is no direct object in this sentence. However, "to the store" would be a
-Daq structure.
"The man was given a gun by the soldier." Here you really need to ask
two questions: 1) "Who is giving?" The soldier. 2) What was given?
The gun. Note that this sentence could be re-cast in English as "The
soldier gave the man a gun", which corresponds to the "gives me the ball"
example.
In short, when translating from English -> Klingon, remember that it is NOT
sufficient to simply "replace the words".
