OK, here's what I was trying to say:
(As usual, comments in brackets.)

Two reasons.

One: Some time ago, Javascript wasn't reliable. There were many "Javascripts". They didn't work together. I still do not trust it. I don't have to. I use CSS.
JavaScript shouldn't be needed - I want to prove (to myself mostly) that it isn't needed.

(Notes: When I say "Javascript isn't needed", I don't mean it doesn't have the right to exist. I mean that it isn't need to have, for example, show links in a different color or a different image. You don't need JS for that. Nor Flash or Silverlight for that matter.)

Two: Some people disable JavaScript. The website will not function anymore. It becomes useless. I do not want that.
Anything I create should work anywhere. I would like that very much.

Note: I know it can be prevented that the website becomes useless. But why risk it, if there is nothing to gain? The web is HTML, it is not JavaScript.

A website is not a piece of paper. A website should be flexible. Do NOT limit it!

The computer display isn't all there is. Other displays exist. Accept that.

yIqIm: SoQ'a' DaghoS!

(Is there a word for "rant"?)

(More explanation, rant:
People do disable JS. I don't know why, and it doesn't matter. JS isn't an inherent part of the web, HTML and CSS, however IS. So anything beyond HTML/CSS should not be required unless absolutely necessary.
I believe it is a cleaner way if you avoid JS. I try to create my websites without artificial restrictions if possible. JS is one restriction. Screen size another. Websites should not force you to have X times Y screen size. Or to have a certain plugin (Flash, Silverlight, etc...) installed.

We (as web users and designers) have finally overcome the browser wars, the rotting corpse of Internet Explorer 6 isn't infesting the web anymore (even MS tries to get rid of the stench!), so why are some trying to get back into the mindset that you need "X and Y, in this size and that color and do it THIS way" when we finally could move the web to the next step? I'm NOT talking about "Web 2.0" of course.

I've once seen (and never found again) a beautiful text that explained the nature of the web. Something along the lines of reading a newspaper during breakfast, listening to it from your MP3 player while on the train, then viewing it on the big screen in your office - all of it could be the same website.

It is the ideal I try to reach. It's the reason why the KTH interface shrinks/grows to accomodate the screen size. Not perfect, btw, it has a minimum size. But better than fixed "one size fits none" design, right?
Also, the same principle applies to the actual KTH binary. When I had to learn C# for work, I was delighted to learn that the same compiled binary could be run - with an interpreter - in any other system, without much loss of performance. And certainly without the need to recompile the sources. So you can run the binary on Windows (natively) or on Linux (with Mono). The latter made it possible to create the KTH website.)

I'm done for now.
I'm sorry for the rant, when I start talking about the web, I can't stop. I just talk and talk and talk...
I restarted three times. I couldn't keept it shorter.
I tried to write in Klingon. I failed.
