word histories

I'm trying to gather any information we have on the formation
of Klingon words, i.e. {qa'vIn} is based on the Terran word "caffine" (sp?), {'I'} has a lengthy, but funny story behind it...

Anything we know about how the words came up (not counting the numerous puns, there's a wiki page on that) would be helpful.
