More of that past tense stuff. I think MO knows that the "literal" translation would be, "...had left," but since they basically mean the same thing in English, "...had..." seems to be just another fill-in word that's not necessary. Going through the little "Useful Klingon Expressions" section of TKD, almost all (if not exactly all) of the phrases translated in our past tense have /-pu'/ and do not contain the words "have had," "had," etc. Probably just jumping to the point that /-pu'/ is quite commonly looked at as our past tense (though in Klingon this does not exist). Get the translation doen quick and narrow.

Given this english, I would not have expected -pu'.
With -pu' I would have expected "When the month ended, he/she had left".
