Re: KLBC. Jereissati ghob ngoq
: How do lists like "A, B, C, and D" translate?
: I didn't find any shortened versions like ĞA B C D jeğ, so I decided
: to use ĞA B je C je D jeğ meaning "((A and B) and C) and D".
TKD (p.55) states:
"The conjunctions joining nouns come after the final noun."
That this rule applies to more than two nouns was confirmed in _Klingon for the
Galactic Traveller_ where we learn that correct usage is {naQjej 'etlh taj je}
"spear, sword, and knife" (p. 139). (Okrand goes on to say that a "common
youthful error" is *{naQjej 'etlh je taj}, but this usage should not be
emulated by foreigners.) This was also implied in the SkyBox Cards copyright
notice:
TM, (R) c. je tera' DIS wa'-Hut-Hut-loS. Hoch SeH Paramount Pictures.
TM, (R) c.1994 Paramount Pictures. All rights reserved.
And speaking of {je}, the same copyright notice points out a subtlety of
multiple noun-noun phrases:
Paramount Pictures malja' permey bIH <Star Trek> pong'e' Deghmey'e' je.
"Star Trek" and related marks are trademarks of Paramount Pictures.
N.B. "Star Trek" applies to both {pong} and {Deghmey} "the 'Star Trek' name and
symbols'. It is, of course, short for {<Star Trek> pong'e' <Star Trek>
Deghmey'e' je} "the 'Star trek" name and the 'Star Trek' symbols".
: The Jereissati are a clan in my micronation, the United Vulcan
: Federation of Socialist Republics. Their structure is very
: hierarchical and based on a moral code, which I made an attempt to
: translate:
I'll leave the rest of this for the BG to comment on.
