Watch that suffix order. I know exactly why you did that, but you've
got to learn not to. The two easiest suffix order errors to make are
tacking a V6 on the very end, and saying */-moHnIS/.
Do you know that English has a hierarchy of modifiers just like
Klingon does? HovqIj and others who have learned English as a second
language probably know, but many English speakers never notice the way
they instinctually arrange all these modifiers (all apply to the
shoes) in the right order:
"pink two ballet the little silk child's new shoes"
You could add in the "rover" 'not' in a few different places. If you
add 'expensive' into the mix there seems to be more than one place to
put it, and it doesn't work quite right. It may be that 'expensive'
is of the same "modifier exclusion class" as something else there, so
it doesn't work, like */-lu'laH/. Or maybe it's just one too many
modifiers. 'my' 'the' and 'that' are definitely in the same exclusion
class. You can only have one modifying any given noun.
*/vIlaDchu'bej/ for "I definitely read it all the way through" sounds
as weird to a Klingon as */that my boat/ does to the English speaker.
The two modifiers don't express contradictory concepts, they just
don't WORK together.
That's just a note I thought I'd add for people who feel that the
Klingon suffix classes are artificial, and that no Klingon would stop
to think about what class a suffix was in. You're right. They
wouldn't stop to think. It just wouldn't *sound* right any other way.
