Two points:

First, we've had this word for a while, Okrand provided it to the KLI
and it was printed in HolQeD before he even began work on KGT.

Second, there's no pun here because the word is an obvious cognate, as
Okrand admitted at the time he provided the term.  The only mystery
really is whether it is a cognate for "caffeine" or "coffee" or both at
once.
