My take on it is, if Okrand said it, it's official/canon, and if Okrand
didn't say it, it isn't. Okrand *is*, however, allowed to make mistakes,
and it's up to him to decide just how to handle them (he had the word-order
wrong in his toasts in CK, and handled it by saying that the word-order in
toasts is fossilized and strange, and proceeded to introduce several other
toasts with unusual word-orders. He can also say "Oops, that was a
mistake.") Typos are a little harder to talk about, unless he comes out
about each and every one of them. I think that there is fairly little
disagreement 90% of the time about whether a given oddity is a typo or
*possibly* new canon (barring a mistake by Okrand). So the occasional
"uI-" I remember seeing in TKW instead of "vI-" is pretty clearly a typo,
as are the ubiquitous I/l problems. HolQeD and Okrand do make typos, but
try to fix them. It's still reasonable to say that what Okrand says goes,
with the caveat that occasionally mistakes creep in. But I don't want to
see "whatever anyone says, goes," even if "anyone"="Paramount
scriptwriters."
