Don't forget that thousands of years ago an oxen jaw bone was frequently
used to write of ones conquests on the skin, in the form that we would now
call Tattoo. And the Maori <sp?> used small sharpened bone fragments, to
engrave the faces of true warriors, thus making the pippius claw a most
obvious tool for such existential expressions, but most unlikely for other
