To greet or not to greet? Revisited

nuqneH

(Anyone found with a "sour grin" will be immediately despatched to
the netherworld) :)

Re SuStel's comments:

Firstly, let me stress that I am not objecting to anybody's interpretation of how
they choose to use nuqneH.

I believe I can extract the key point from your posting.

>The book <TKD> doesn't say what it means by "greeting." Therefore, you don't know
>how to use it "correctly" any more than I do.

This is why I say that nobody should be "corrected" for using nuqeH
as a greeting.. We can debate the issue, but we shouldn't slap
people down as if they were definitely wrong. Wait until there's
canon on this before getting too high handed.

If we don't know the correct usage, then it's O.K. to use it in the
way I outlined - as an opener. I am not suggesting a difinitive
usages for nuqneH.

I'm simply saying lay off "correcting" the people that choose to use the
greeting this way -

Particularly the newcomers. I imagine the people who worked so hard
on the Hamlet restoration (thanks guys and gals) are more than
capable of replying to such remarks if they felt the need (but I
don't think there is any need).

I am aware that Hamlet is not "canon". However I quoted from it to
illustrate that many learned and most honorable Klingonists use the
term in this fashion.

This seems to indicate that it is a reasonable interpretation of
tlhIngan Hol.

btw I didn't suggested that incorrect Klingon grammar should not be
corrected, nor did I sanction the creation of nonsense words. I
certainly did not suggest using nuqneH as a "pretext" or an as an
"amusing code for English ".

Qapla'
(btw usage of the above word probably means "I'm an insider in a secret
society" isn't that right charghwI?) :)
