Minor nit: I forgot to look this up at home, but I believe Hawai'ian really
does have an h and a glottal stop, so "Hawaii" *does* start with "h", but
"Aloha" has neither an h nor a glottal stop as the initial sound: it has
that soft onset you were talking about. It can be done, with a little
practice.
