I'm not too sure about {qeq} as a transitive verb; it doesn't sit right
with me for some reason, but I can't give a good explanation. I'll let
it go for now, and maybe someone will jump in with another opinion, or,
better yet, a canon reference that resolves it one way or another.
Both of your sentences have objects, but the main verb in each has the
{jI-} prefix indicating no object. In each case, it needs to be {vI-}
(the first is a plural third-person object, the second is singular).
