I doubt you'll find many people who would understand "on the heather" as the
meaning of "America."  I certainly had never heard that translation.  Names
don't usually translate well.  The "meaning" behind the name is normally not
important.  Ironically, American Indians' names are often an exception; they
are usually descriptive, and the concept being described is important.
