That is a very interesting question. TKD states that {chaH} is used when
you are referring to a group of beings capable of using language,
otherwise {bIH} is used. I would suspect that, since you are referring
to a group which consists of both, it would default to {bIH} since the
group you are referring to does not exclusively consist of beings capable
of using language.
On the other hand, you could also use {ghaH 'oH je}.
