<div dir="ltr">Does anyone (D'Armond?) have a compendium of child-related vocabulary, perhaps with some work-arounds for specific baby terminology?<div><br></div><div>I know there are at lest a few of us on the list who are newly arrived at parenthood, and it would be nice to benefit from the wisdom of those who have gone before.</div><div><br></div><div>It might even be nice to make a section of the website about using Klingon with children, to include key vocabulary, some kid-friendly songs (I have a lullaby to start that section off), and some stories. It would be particularly nice to make a few Klingon-language picture books (I have most of the text of one worked out, though I would require the assistance of someone with an artistic bent if I want to finish that project). If we actually published a Klingon picture book, it would double as both a resource for beginners and a coffee-table curiosity for nonspeakers, so I think its probably worthwhile.</div><div><br></div><div>I will start by listing all the baby-related vocab I can think of off the top of my head:</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Completely canonical vocab:</div><div>ghu - baby</div><div>SoS - mother</div><div>SoSoy - mommy</div><div>vav - father</div><div>vavoy - daddy</div><div>puqloD - son</div><div>puqbe' - daughter</div><div>(All other family relationship terms also)</div><div>paq - book</div><div>nIm - milk</div><div>ghung - be hungry</div><div>Say' - be clean</div><div>lam - be dirty</div><div>QaD - be dry</div><div>bol - drool</div><div>bom - sing/song</div><div>rop - be ill/sick</div><div>Hagh - laugh</div><div>ghoj - learn</div><div>parHa' - like</div><div>par - dislike</div><div>Quch - be happy</div><div>chuS - be noisy</div><div>tam - be quiet</div><div>(body parts)</div><div>(clothing)</div><div>reH - play</div><div>Quj - play a game</div><div><br></div><div>attempts at glossing baby specific terms:</div><div>Crib - ghu QongDaq (baby bed) or mo' QongDaq (cage bed)</div><div>bottle - ghu Hivje' (baby drinking glass - sippy cup also?) or nIm ngaSwI' (milk container)</div><div>Diaper - ghu yopwaH (baby pants) or puch yopwaH (toilet pants)</div><div>toy - reHvaD Doch (item for playing)</div><div>stuffed animal - Sajqoq tun (soft fake pet)</div><div><br></div><div>I would particularly appreciate feedback on the attempted glosses, especially other suggested translations, and terms people have used for these or other baby items/activities. (also please let me know if there is a canon term for something I've tried to gloss).</div><div><br></div><div>be''etlh</div></div>
