<div dir="ltr"><div><div><div><div><div>I took the first level examination during the qepHom a few years ago, and I learned all the words needed for it by heart. I was really well prepared, but the test is really very strict. It allows only very few mistakes, and I had one or two too much so I didn't pass. Shame on me. :(<br>
<br></div>Appart from a few simple mix-ups and words that I couldn't remember during the test, I got about 3 "mistakes" because I knew too much. I don't remember them, but I think I used an 'e' construction where just a suffix was needed. And 'e' constructions are not part of the level one test, you are not allowed to use them, try to rephrase the translation! I didn't think of that... my bad. And I used -pu' (or maybe a different aspect suffix) in one or two other occasions, although this also is something from level 2. My sentence was theoretically correct, but I used knowledge that I didn't have.<br>
<br></div>The instructions to the test warned of that, actually, but taking the test and having all those 500+ words in my head, I of course didn't really know what words and affixes I knew from the list I had learned using Anki and what I knew beforehand. So be sure to know exactly what you may know for level one. ;)<br>
</div><div>By the way, the time given to solve all the questions is really more than enough.<br></div><div><br></div>Apart from that, nothing was especially difficult in the questions if you know the Klingon grammar. Knowing your prefixes is always a good advice, of course.<br>

My biggest roadblock to learning more is time. Plus, with the KLI<br>
qep'a' now decoupled from WorldCon, it is a lot more expensive for me to<br>

At the moment TKD is the principle study material but I am actively working on a course that will eventually be on the KLI website.<br>
I don't have a timeline yet for when it will be ready, but I will need beta testers. The sight of discouraged beginners at qep'a' has long distressed me. I want to see the number of test takers AND the pass rate go up for the KLCP.<br>

I appreciate everyone's comments. I had heard the "suffix number" issue before. I have to count on my fingers to find the actual numbers myself. And it's quite a chunk of vocabulary to have to swallow in order to call yourself a "beginner," but definitely not impossible.<br>

What are the hardest and easiest parts? I don’t want to know any specific questions on the test, but I’m assuming learning the vocabulary has been the hardest, because the grammar in proportion is quite light.<br>
What did you wish you had studied more the first time? What do you wish someone had explained to you? Any other comments on the test or material that had to be studied for it?<br>

In Earthlings, one of the participants is seen to mutter, “What is the Klingon word for fail.” The director swore to e that he did not set that up, that the participant said it unprompted while studying, but I notice now that luj is not in the 500 beginner words list. Did you study generally, or prepare specifically for the test?<br>
