{per yuD} "code name"
The noun {tuH} refers to a military maneuver of any kind. A specific
plan or stratagem usually has a code name ({per yuD} [literally,
"dishonest label"]) coined especially for the occasion and not neces-
sarily used again. A {per yuD} is sometimes the name of an animal,
sometimes the name of a Klingon historical figure, and it usually ends
in {Qu'} ("mission, task"). Code names are the equivalent of Federation
locutions such as "Operation Cougar" and are therefore often translated
in that pattern: {targh Qu'} (Operation Targ), {lung Qu'} (Operation
Dragon; ... {'aqtu' Qu'} (Operation Aktuh). [KGT 48f]
Related nouns include {Degh} "emblem, symbol, insignia, marking, mark" and
{pong} "name".

> per (verb) - label
rep yIper!
Ascertain the hour! Specify the hour! (i.e. "What time is it?")
["This is literally "Label the hour!" (st.klingon 2/99)]
Though the verb {per} "label" is usually used in the sense of "attach
or assign a name to", it can also be used for such notions as "ascertain,
specify, pin down". This is not considered slang or idiomatic.
[st.klingon 2/99]
Related verbs include {pong} "name, call" and {ghItlh} "mark, engrave,
incise"; cf. also {ngu'} "identify" and {wIv} "choose".
