"I love you" (was Re: Translating vs. Thinking)

The short answer:  Your father wins the bet.  You can say things that might
express the same sentiment, but you can't say "I love you, Dad" in Klingon.

A longer explanation involves the fact that there isn't a simple verb in
Klingon meaning "love", much commentary on how vague and imprecise the
English word "love" is, and some assumptions about what you really mean by
"I love you, Dad."  I'm not going to get into that discussion.  Perhaps
someone would like to write a piece for the FAQ on the topic?
