Yes, {lo'} is vague that way. If it bothers you, just use a less vague
verb, as you eventually come around to:

There's not necessarily a causal connection implied by the {'ej}. Perhaps
{jIbachmo' loD vIQID} gets the idea across better.

It's rare that I find myself suggesting something like this, but you might
consider using a noun instead of a verb to refer to the shooting itself:
{loD HoH bachwIj}.
