Re: Klingon WOTD: lel (v)
: Klingon word: lel
: Part of Speech: verb
: Definition: get out, take out
Not attested in canon.
The English gloss *seems* to be transitive. E.g.:
loSpevvo' yIHmeyvetlh yIlel jay'!
Get those $%@# tribbles out of the quadrotriticale!
DaH veQ vIlelnIS.
I've got to take out the trash now.
Ha'DIbaH ghamvo' 'aDDu' lelmeH, roD SIjwI' mach lulo' tlhIngan
vutwI'pu'.
Klingon cooks commonly employ a small "slitter" knife to extract
the veins from an animal's limbs. (cf. KGT p.97)
I'm guessing we could also use {lel} for pulling a d'k tahg from its sheath or
a disruptor pistol out of a holster {vaH}.
Related verbs include {teq} "remove, take off", {jotlh} "take down", {nge'}
"take away" and {yaH} "be taken away".
For the intransitive usage (or verb of motion, if you prefer) we have {mej}
"leave, depart" and {Haw'} "flee, get out". E.g.:
(naDevvo') yImej!
(naDevvo') yIHaw'!
Get out (of here)!
