Re: Klingon WOTD: 'Iw 'Ip (n)

: Klingon word:     'Iw 'Ip
: Part of Speech:   noun
: Definition:       blood oath
: Additional Notes: KCD.

Never used in a Klingon sentence, but in KCD "Blood Oath Circles" {'Iw 'Ip
ghomey} is the name of a well-known sculpture by {mIStaq}. (No
Federation-style transcription was given, but it's probably M'stak or M'stok.)
Torghn, the father of Pok, has a copy of this sculpture in his house.

It's composed of course from the noun {'Ip} "oath"; the homophonous verb is
{'Ip} "vow, swear".  We also have the verbs {vIt} "tell the truth" and {lay'}
"promise". {lay'Ha'} "break one's word" certainly suggests *{'IpHa'} "break
one's vow or oath".
