It can be used that way, but we don't have any evidence that such usage is
"correct".  It's almost guaranteed to be understood (at least by native
speakers of English) but it's entirely possible that it's wrong.  There's
an example I heard once in German, where the verb is defined as something
like "get in", but it still needs an extra "on" when used in a sentence.
