Re: Klingon WOTD: Hur'Iq (n)

: Klingon word: Hur'Iq
: Part of Speech: noun
: Definition: outsider, foreigner
: Additional Notes: KGT (slang). See also {nov}.

{nov} "alien, outsider, foreigner" is the non-slang word. The opposite of
both is a {Sung} "native".

{Hur'Iq} the Hur'q [i.e. the race] KGT
{Hur'Iqngan} Hur'q (person) KGT

  wIH; Hur'Iqngan rur
  ruthless as a Hur'q KGT

The {no' Hol} name of this predatory alien race, who invaded and looted the
Klingon Homeworld centuries before the TNG era, is probably derived from
{Hur} "outside", although some fans have suggested {Hurgh} "be dark" -
alluding to their dark deeds, or because the Hur'q came out of the darkness
of space.

A derivation from {Hurgh} "pickle" seems unlikely, however. <g>
